It is known based on research conducted by researchers from Princeton University about the technology of tracking the movement of people on the internet. The trick is to record the tracking code is typically embedded in a site.

The survey was conducted by Arvind Narayanan and Steven Englehardt from Princeton University. The sample is collected one million sites use software specifically the university, namely OpenWPM. This software can open a site and noted the tracking technology in it.
